Course Description:
This unusual Shaker side table was made in South Union, Kentucky. The bulb and square turned leg with the pear foot is found on several pieces from this area of the country. Students will turn the legs using a duplicator, cut out the table parts from quarter sawn cherry lumber, and will construct the drawers using finger joints and overlay fronts. Students will learn to use water stain and to apply a sealer and topcoat which will result in a rubbed luster finish similar to the original table. The class emphasis will be on the set up and proper safe use of the table saw and lathe; and on basic miniature woodworking, woodturning and wood finishing techniques. No special experience is required.

Time: 12 hours. Completion is likely.

Power Tools: table saw, lathe

Skill Level: All levels. Although this class is excellent for beginning woodworkers, there are techniques that student at all levels will find useful to learn.

Materials Fee: $20 to be collected at school
