Course Description:
The Art Nouveau movement of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was characterized by forms found in nature and influenced Louis Comfort Tiffany in his stained glass. He developed the copper foil method of assembling stained glass panels, which permitted him to create panels with curved, free flowing designs rather than the more rigidly geometric patterns of earlier times. The floral panel in this class, with its curves and tendrils, is reminiscent of the various clematis and trellis panels created by Tiffany. While creating the panel, students will learn the proper use of various kinds of wire; and how to solder them together to form the framework of the piece. When the framework is complete, students will learn to use liquid stained glass paint to give the look of Tiffany’s art glass. The class includes a basswood frame for the 1 ½" H x 1" W stained glass panel.
