Course Description:
The truth is, iron can be a soft and forgiving metal. Maybe that is what was on the mind of the unknown maker of this sweet little iron cradle a couple of hundred years ago. The date and maker are unknown, but the piece students will learn to make will be much the same work in miniature -- planning, layout, cutting, joining, filing, and finishing. Students will also learn about iron and other metals, how metal likes to be worked, and the use of heat in the process. Students will learn to safely use the mini torch and join metal by silver brazing, along with heat treating and finishing. Learning the basics of metalworking will also allow students to make tools and jigs for other miniature work as well, and this class should give them the knowledge and confidence to do so.

Time: 12 hours. Completion is likely.

Power Tools: none

Skill Level: Beginner. With some basic skills and dexterity, beginners will do just fine in this class.

Materials Fee: $30
