Course Description:
For one week students will be able to drive right through Castine on Route 66 and dine at the deliciously retro Castine Diner! Create such diner delicacies as meatloaf, mashed potatoes, layer cake, donuts, pie, burgers, fries, and hot dogs. Lobster rolls are also on the menu, and breakfast is served all day!

Students will have the opportunity to practice the following polymer clay/miniature food making techniques: texturing, use of liquid clay, resin, mold making, coloring techniques, and caning. The skills learned will be easily applicable to many other miniature food making projects. The students will make their own plates, trays, take-out containers, and condiment bottles. The instructor will provide the metal diner counter. The students will be provided with an optional list of accessories (napkin holders, silverware, stools, etc.) from which they can further decorate their finished counter. The selection will include both basic, as well as artisan made accessories. Decals, placemats, templates for take-out boxes, newspapers, and funny money will also be provided by the instructor. Elements of design and color theory will be discussed. Students will be encouraged to decorate their counter as they wish, so that each piece will be unique. The instructor will provide a highly detailed instruction booklet, as well as lots of chocolate!

Time: 24 hours. Completion is likely.

Power Tools: none

Skill Level: All levels

Materials Fee: $65 (optional basic and artisan accessories will be offered for an additional fee)
