Course Description:
This graceful delicate pattern, similar to crewel needlework design, adorns this early 18th Century blanket chest. The vines, foliage, and flowers spring out of a delightful urn. The pattern is executed in a palette consisting of red, off-white, and black on a brown background. It is completed with the initials of the owner. The chest measures approximately 3" H x 2 ¾" W x 1 ½" D. Those of you familiar with the
book Early American Decorative Patterns by Ellen S. Sabine will find excellent detailed instructions for this pattern. The techniques learned in this class will be helpful with other decorative painting in the folk art style. The students will have the opportunity to develop their own Mark Murphy creation in a relaxed classroom atmosphere and anticipate returning home with a finished project.

Time: 24 hours. Completion is likely.

Power Tools: none

Skill Level: All levels. The instructor believes that a beginner with determination and curiosity can do amazingly well with this project and encourages all levels.

Materials Fee: $125 to be collected at school
