Course Description:
In this class students will be sculpting a 3 ¾" Paperclay child. Paperclay is a fairly unusual choice of medium for such a small doll, but it has its own warm tactile character and it will take the fine detail required. Students will be provided with a resin skeleton over which the doll is sculpted. This skeleton technique enable students to learn the principles of anatomy and proportion. Even beginners cannot go wrong with this method. Diagrams and instructions are provided
so that students can make their own skeletons when
they return home.

Class participants can make a conventional child doll or any variation on a child. To encourage imaginative thoughts, the sample shown here is an elf. Other samples will be available for study in the class. As both head and body designs can easily be changed, anything is possible. The fascinating process of sculpting takes much of the time but students will be guided through painting the features, stringing the dolls, and making the wigs. The project will probably be completed in the time allocated with some time available for demonstrations and advice on dressing, for which patterns are provided.

Time: 36 hours. Completion is likely.

Power Tools:moto tool

Skill Level: Beginner. Intermediate and advanced students can also gain much, as many of the methods are probably unique. At times, making dolls can require a little patience, but it is always enjoyable whether you intend to make just the one doll in class or to develop the methods at home for a whole new passion.

Materials Fee: $22 to be collected at school
