Mary Grady O’Brien, Fellow
Folk Art Painting
Hearth and Home, Bellows and Box
Home is the theme for these two colorful household objects which make lovely companion pieces and will be a pleasing addition to any period New England setting. Both have a sunny yellow background that indicates Connecticut origin. Nothing was more utilitarian in the 1830–1840 household than storage boxes and bellows. Both these subjects are charming in the simplicity of design, and offer a very gentle learning opportunity. The home was a popular subject and the patterns learned in this class can be applied to other objects. It is always this instructor’s hope that the beginner will be inspired with the skills and confidence to explore future projects.

All levels. For the curious but hesitant student, this is a non threatening way to become familiar with oil painting techniques in a relaxed setting. Yet a more experienced painter can expect to be challenged. This is a good project for any interested beginner.
