Queen Anne Dressing Table and Mirror
This dressing table is a classic example of rural Queen Anne line and simplicity. The legs and rounded cutouts of the apron and sides are most pleasing. It was made in the Connecticut Valley in the mid to late 18th Century and appears to be identical to the one in the Historic Deerfield collection. The mirror, also 18th Century, is a wonderful companion piece with the dressing table.
Students will go through all of the procedures for making the dressing table and mirror. The main focus of the class will be constructing the casework, cutting and shaping the beautifully formed legs and apron, while also constructing the mirror frame. When all of the construction is complete, the students will then learn the instructor’s finishing techniques.
36 hours. Completion of the construction of the pieces is likely, with some finishing (staining and varnishing) to be completed at home.
