INSTRUCTOR: Kari Bloom, Artisan
COURSE: Etched Wood Painting Technique
PROJECT: Arts and Crafts Screen

Screens can either partition space or add a wonderful accent to a room. This screen has a typical motif used in tiles, stenciling, and needle work indicative of the Arts and Crafts period. In this class students will learn how to paint and “grout” the design on the three etched panels to create a striking effect. The colors shown here will be provided, but if students would like another combination they are free to bring their own acrylic craft paints. When the painting and “grouting” is complete, they will go on to cut the wood needed to construct to panels. Once the panels are complete, a stain and finish will be applied and brass hinges will be added. When not in use, the screen folds completely flat for transport.
12 hours. Completion is likely.

All levels—even advanced students will learn a new technique. Painting experience is helpful but not required. This class is for those who don’t mind getting their fingers a little dirty!
