COURSE: Wood Turning
PROJECT: Turned Wood Vases (This class is FULL)

This course is an introduction to the technique of vase- hollowing in woodturning. This is a step-up course from the basic spindle-turning and bowl-hollowing. In this class the instructor will teach students step by step to learn the proper usage of tools and the actual cutting maneuvers at the lathe for all different forms and how to hollow them. The projects include a variety of shapes with small openings. Students will be turning mahogany, cherry, maple, and some exotic woods.
The class will start with a review of spindle-turning and bowl-hollowing. After the students are comfortable with the tools and the cutting method, they will then learn to hollow vases. The instructor will discuss how to create various forms and show diagrams of shapes. Techniques of finishing on lathe will also be taught. Through practice, students will be able to develop skills to create not only useful but also artistic pieces.
