INSTRUCTOR: Cristina Minischetti, Fellow
COURSE: Polymer Clay Food
PROJECT: Canning Day

Summer is here and the garden is producing so many vegetables... let’s preserve and keep the garden’s harvest fresh for a long, long time! In this class students will make all the food displayed on the top of the distressed table: carrots (sliced and whole), string beans, cauliflower, aubergines (egg plants), zucchini, and tomatoes. Carrots and beans will be set in canning jars and in a pot, too. By making these items students will learn how to use resin and polymer clays with advanced techniques as: caning; texturing the clay with other mediums; finishing with paints; and using resin to simulate liquids. The techniques and skills learned can be used to make other miniature foods.
As well as creating the food, students will paint and distress the table used in this project. The instructor will provide some tools, the table, and all the accessories displayed on the top of the table (glass jars, plate, basket, pot, wooden spoon and skimmer), together with highly detailed written directions to keep for future reference.
12 hours. Completion is likely.

All levels. Students new to polymer clay could practice on their own before school with basic polymer clay techniques such as mixing clay colors or making simple shapes. For this purpose, the instructor will provide a basic tutorial in the welcome letter sent out to students in the spring.
$75 to be collected at school. Accessories displayed on the lower table shelf are not included in the material fees. Students can bring their own accessories or choose from the optional items provided by the instructor, or leave the shelf empty.
