INSTRUCTOR: Betsy Niederer, Fellow
COURSE: Polymer Clay Food
PROJECT: A Summer Garden Basket

Assuming that the deer leave your miniature garden alone this summer, you should expect a bountiful harvest of home grown goodness! Remember that your dolls need to eat at least five a day! In this fun class students will learn a variety of techniques to make their miniature fruits and vegetables look amazingly real and delectable. Students will make a variety of good things including: cut cantaloupe melons, ears of corn, robust radishes, potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, and red and yellow tomatoes. Since students will master these techniques, we can have some fun taking “requests” for more vegetables and fruit (celery or beets anyone?)!
Techniques that students will learn include: caning, color mixing and color theory, texturing clay for realistic effects, making a silicone mold, using liquid clay, and using pastels to add subtle color to clay surfaces. Students can arrange their petite produce in a beautiful handmade basket, designed especially for this class by Nancy Wantiez.
