COURSE:
Costume Design and Construction
PROJECT: Miniature Dressmaking (This class is FULL)

davies

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The central purpose of this class is to guide students through the steps of making a costume for a dollshouse woman or child that can be, entirely or partially, removable. Students can use their own jointed dolls or they can be supplied with a dress form as the model. The procedures covered will be costume design, the selection of fabrics, pattern-making and fitting, miniature sewing techniques, making in-scale trimmings, and achieving a realistic finish.

This class provides students with an opportunity to costume dolls to their own requirements; to discover design skills that they never knew they had; and above all, to have fun.

TIME:

24 hours. Completion is likely.

POWER TOOLS:

none

SKILL LEVEL:

All levels

MATERIALS FEE:

There is a charge of $20, to be collected at school, for the dress form and all necessary materials. Students who bring their own dolls as models and, perhaps their own fabrics, will have the charge reduced provided these items are suitable for the project. Full advice regarding such suitability will be sent out in March. In Castine, some optional fabrics and trimmings will be available at reasonable prices.
