INSTRUCTOR: Kari Bloom, Fellow
COURSE: Upholstery
PROJECT: Modern Chair

Students will start with a naked chair frame and let their imaginations go! They will cover the chair with a choice of upholstery material including (but not limited to) velvet, silk, microsuede, leather, velour, moleskin, and just plain cotton. Students will come up with a combination that they probably never realized would even go together. They will learn how different glues work with different fabrics and other techniques that are useful when working with a variety of materials. Students will also choose combinations from an array of trims such as beading cord, crewel, ribbon, and velvet piping. This is a project in which students can choose many looks from elegant and classy to bright and bold. The result will be a one of a kind striking chair that stands on its own in any setting.
