resseguie

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The sock monkey is an iconic depression-era stuffed toy which has maintained its popularity to the present time. Originally made by cutting and sewing Rockford red-heeled work socks, our monkeys will be knit with no cutting and very little sewing. Students will learn double-knitting technique, making an I-cord, and short-row shaping. There will also be a discussion on how the basic monkey shaping can be adapted to other stuffed toys. Some students may have time to make an optional vest. All materials will be supplied.

TIME: 12 hours. Completion is likely.

POWER TOOLS: None

SKILL LEVEL: All levels. Students must know knitting basics, and will be more likely to finish the project easily if they have some experience knitting in miniature. Beginning miniature knitters may choose to learn the techniques with larger needles and thread, but their monkey will not be in scale.

MATERIALS FEE: $20 to be collected at school
