INSTRUCTOR: Bill Studebaker, Artisan
COURSE: Furniture Construction
PROJECT: Farmhouse Sink (THIS CLASS IS FULL)

Based on kitchen sinks of the late Victorian period, this generously proportioned double-basin would have seen duty cleaning the household dishes, laundry, and even the residents on Saturday night! A very “modern” bridge faucet provides for not only hot and cold water but (wonderously!) mixing them. Providing the utility of a Welsh Dresser with open shelving and dish drying racks above, a “soapstone” countertop covers the closed pot storage and cutlery drawers of the lower section. Students will make the upper and lower casework, with two drawers and four recessed-panel hinged doors. These will all be mounted with traditional face-frame construction, and fitted to the basin and faucet provided. Standard hinges will be altered to reflect period style, and the entire piece will be painted and given a distressed appearance appropriate to a much-used utilitarian piece.
