with Linda Gale (A)

Using examples of both easy and more difficult fabric, students will learn the secrets of making fabric gracefully flow with gravity. The “scale” elements of fabric and lace will be illustrated, with special attention to how this affects close-up photography. The use of 'jigs' (gadgets constructed to help you) will be explained, and students will learn the steps needed to create a jig to replicate the lady's chair and create one of their own, using precut materials. Students will then make an elegant satin nightgown and sheer peignoir, using prepared fabric and lace pieces, and very simple sewing and gluing techniques. (Colors will be coordinated with the chosen chair color.) Following a discussion on fabric manipulation and draping, students will drape the gown/peignoir set, learning how to manipulate the fabric, and how to stabilize it. Each student will leave with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece that will be an elegant accent in any lady's boudoir. Students should bring small, sharp scissors, a small, clean square (4-6”), very fine pointed tweezers and Aleene’s Fast Grab glue. Optional, but not mandatory - please bring a small damp cloth for fingers, a travel iron and a hairdryer. Prior to the class, the lady's chair will be ordered from Bespaq, in the student's color preference. The cost of the chair is included in the class fee. Students must enroll as early as possible to assure that their chair will arrive in time.
